Micropayments ask consumers for a payment to the publishers. The benefits could be access to certain features, or to remove advertising.

Within mobile apps this (in the form of in-app purchases) is a strong revenue source. But on the web there is little adoption, attributed to the high barrier involved with performing an online payment.


Pay-walls block consumers from viewing certain content for free, but demand paid access by setting up a subscription or a one time transaction.

Header bidding allows publishers to have ad networks compete for a view by exposing a bid price, which then determines what ad network to load first.
